Testicular cancer one of the more uncommon types of cancer in the U.S., less than 10,000 new cases are diagnosed each year and only one in 250 men will get it in their lifetime. Many experience a positive outcome as testicular cancer is often treated with great success.

Surgery
We work with expert teams of surgeons who are specially trained in surgical removal of tumors in the testicles. Surgery is the first treatment option for almost all testicular cancer cases, including those that have spread. The most common testicular cancer procedure is radical inguinal orchiectomy, which is the removal of the affected testicle and spermatic cord. During this procedure, your surgeon makes a small incision in between between the pelvis and abdomen, and the gently pulls the cancerous testicle up through the opening. For more advanced cancers, you may also have the nearby lymph nodes removed, this can be done at the same time as a radical inguinal orchiectomy, or as a separate procedure called retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND).

Chemotherapy for testicular cancer
Chemotherapy refers to drugs that destroy cancer cells. Our expert teams may recommend chemotherapy on its own, or after surgery to prevent recurrence. Chemotherapy is usually only used to treat testicular cancers that have spread to other parts of the body and it can help control its growth, relieve symptoms and improve your testicular cancer prognosis.
Testicular cancer typically responds well to chemotherapy, but if recurrence occurs, higher doses of chemotherapy could be more effective. We can use higher doses of chemotherapy to kill the cancer cells, but it may damage the bone marrow, where blood cells are made, and lead to problems such as infections and bleeding. You may under one or two bone marrow (stem cell) transplants in over the course of your high-dose chemotherapy for testicular cancer, to replenish the damaged cells.

External beam radiation therapy (ERBT)
External beam radiation therapy (ERBT) delivers high-powered X-rays from outside the body, precisely targeting and shrinking or destroying tumors. Radiation therapy may be recommended after surgery to destroy any remaining cancer cells, or to treat cancers that have spread to the nearby lymph nodes and can’t be seen.
Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)
IMRT is an advanced external beam radiation therapy technique where the beams of radiation are precisely shaped to exactly match your tumor and damage to adjacent healthy tissues is limited.
